Overview & vision of Chemical Engineering
Chemical Engineering is a branch of Engineering where engineers convert raw materials into useful products by suitable conversion processes like distillation, absorption, adsorption, evaporation, crystallization etc. Generally Chemical Engineering is divided into three stages — the treatment of raw material, proper chemical transformation & the separation of desired chemical products.
There are a lot of chemical industries throughout the country including West Bengal. This Engineering branch deals with the essential needs of mankind — Foods, Clothing & Housing, Health, Energy Consumption, Communication, Application of Natural Sources, Protection of Environment etc.
This Diploma in Chemical Engineering course was started at Contai Polytechnic from 2008 with an intake of 60 students. After completion of Diploma Course, many students have secured jobs through Campus Interviews at companies like Haldia Petrochemicals, Mitsubishi Chemicals, ITC, Gokul Ref. Oil & Solvent Limited, Matix Fertilizers etc.

"The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in the year 2008 and currently offering Diploma Program with 60 intake. The Department has been producing competent Chemical Engineers to the society right from its inception."
Students are admitted to these programmes based on the merit list of their JEXPO & VocLet examination. The department has well qualified faculty dedicated to teaching and doing research in fundamental and advanced areas.
The Department is well equipped with all the required laboratories as per the curriculum, follows a well-disciplined teaching-learning process, and maintains a win-win student-teacher relationship on campus. Students after completing the diploma program are absorbed into reputed firms through campus placements like Haldia Petrochemicals, JSPL, JSW, JSL, Mitsubishi Chemicals, ITC, Gokul Ref. Oil & Solvent Limited, Matix Fertilizers etc.
